Self Cleaning Guttering
Because we fit our gutters with the correct fall, the guttering will self cleanse. The polished internal surface of good quality guttering combines with the fall to wash the gutters clean with every rainfall.
Good Quality Guttering
Frankly there’s a lot of cheap rubbish on the market these days often so poor you will not even find the makers mark on it, and there’s no shortage of cowboys that will fit it badly for you as well.
Quality gutterings are made form tough U.V. impact resistant plastic and have passed stringent quality control so all the joints have even pressure, this ensures the seals remain waterproof for years to come. And of course in the unlikely event of damage you can get spares and repair.
Guttering Function And Fixing A Brief Overview
Gutterings are fixed to the fascia, wall plate or brick work of your house, just under roof level. The purpose is to collect the rainwater and allow it to run away down a gentle slope cleaning dirt out of the gutter as it flows to the down pipes and away.
Common Guttering Styles And Information.
Common styles: half round, square line, ogee, deepflow and continuous:
‘Half round’ the most popular profile, available in all colours and ‘cast iron effect’. Very long lasting profile and suitable for most household applications.
No real negatives, the popular classic workhorse of guttering systems.
‘Square line’ a popular profile, available in all colours, the most popular being white. A modern profile suitable for most household applications and with slightly higher flow capacity than ‘half round’.
Slightly more prone to suffer from dripping joints in later life.
‘Ogee’ profile pronounced “oh gee” Classy profile similar to many on houses of the 18 and 1900’s. Often used to match into old Cast Iron guttering on terrace houses because of the very close profile match.
Good flow rate, most colours and ‘Cast Iron effect’.
‘Deep flow’ The clue is in the name, often overlooked because of the slight increase in cost but a fantastic gutter.
Very long lasting, superb flow rate, most colours and cast iron effect.
Continuous Guttering – Our Opinion Don’t Bother
If you’ve found your way here, you’re probably looking to buy continuous guttering.
Unfortunately we don’t sell it or fit it. You may wish to read our opinion and some facts before clicking away however…
Called continuous, joint less or seamless guttering, and often marketed on the main selling point that it doesn’t contain joints… Seems obvious.
This it not true however because if you look closely everywhere there is either a corner, an outlet orstop end you will see a joint (hardly jointless).
Because it’s extruded on a continuous extrusion machine that bends the aluminium to the gutters profile, this machine cannot by design create angles, stops or outlets.
But by far the worst feature of ALL continuous guttering is the lack of self cleaning due to non slip painted internal finish. We are often called to clean them out, and sometimes they actually have plants and weeds growing in them.
Blocked gutters are common place with continuous gutter systems:
